| Antonin Rodet joins La Famille des Grands Vins |
| January 2010 |
In September, the Burgundy house of Boisset, La Famille des Grands Vins acquired Antonin Rodet, Burgundian proprietor and merchant based in Mercurey. Half of all Antonin Rodet wines are sold on the international market with a long-standing presence in Canada and in the airline sector. The house produces 2.5 million bottles a year.
Antonin Rodet has been synonymous with Mercurey since 1875. It also owns the house of Dufouleur Père & Fils at Nuits-Saint-Georges, and comprises a total of some 90 hectares under vine, essentially in the Côte Chalonnaise, including full ownership of the Château de Mercey estate, exclusive distribution of the monopole Château de Rully and also the three-hectare monopole of Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Clos de Thorey.
The Château de Mercey estate covers 46 hectares. Its red appellations are Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, where the vines are pruned in a lyre system (22 ha), Mercurey (8 ha), Maranges Premier Cru (4.2 ha), Mercurey Premier Cru (1.75 ha) and Santenay (1.15 ha). For the whites there are Hautes-Côtes de Beaune with lyre-pruned vines (6.9 ha), Bourgogne Aligoté (1.6 ha) and Mercurey (1.35 ha).
The Château de Rully estate comprises 32 hectares under cultivation, mainly whites (23.1 ha) with the appellations including Rully Les St Jacques and La Chaume, covering 17.6 ha. Then there are the prestigious premiers crus La Bressande Monopole du Château de Rully, La Pucelle, Mouléne and Grésigny covering 5.5 ha. The rest is made up of a curiosity – red Rully covering 6.4 ha, of which 4.5 ha is premier cru.
Boisset’s vineyards now extend over 450 hectares, mainly planted with the Burgundy varietals Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
